AS smoking and drug abuse become increasingly common among teenagers, the students of St Margaret's College decided to warn youngsters of the dangers through a health exhibition.

The exhibition, organised by the science club, was held recently in the school hall. It was part of the school's ''Week of Medicine'' campaign aimed at promoting health and disease prevention.

With the theme ''Health and Disease'', the exhibition covered topics ranging from drug abuse and smoking to cancer and heart attack.

Information on different types of drugs and their effects was introduced to help students get a better understanding of the dangers of drug abuse.

Charts and pictures on the hazards of smoking were displayed. Various suggestions of how to give up smoking were also included.

Sixth-former Chan Ka-lok, the chairman of the science club, said the display boards were provided by the Department of Health.

Speaking to Young Post , teacher-adviser Mr Lo Kwai said: ''A lot of young people have picked up the bad habits of smoking and taking drugs. We decided to warn them of the dangers; prevention is better than cure.'' Mr Lo added that the students were given a free lesson so everyone had a chance to see the exhibition.
