The constituency expected to see the largest number of contesting teams - New Territories West - was crawling with candidates yesterday. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong team of 20 or so, led by Tam Yiu-chung, won a less-than-positive response from one passer-by. The man shouted at them: 'Cheers, congratulations, shoeshiners!' The team met the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood's Yim Tin-sang twice, while submitting nominations and campaigning on the streets. The Democratic Party's candidates, led by Lee Wing-tat, stood aside at the Kwai Hing district office yesterday while the 10-member campaign team for unionist Leung Yiu-chung chanted slogans. Mr Lee said they would try to avoid clashes with other candidates from the pro-democracy camp. 'But we'll attack everyone who had sat on the provisional legislature for sure.' Mr Leung, who left The Frontier to run as an independent, said he and Lee Cheuk-yan of The Frontier had an understanding they would try to avoid campaigning against each other.
