Companies that collapsed in the regional financial turmoil have not been removed from the functional constituency electoral roll.

A search of the Final Register showed CA Pacific Securities and three companies of the Peregrine group are registered in the financial services sector.

CA Pacific is in liquidation after collapsing with debts of at least $500 million in January. Peregrine Brokerage, Peregrine Bullion and Peregrine Futures Hong Kong are also defunct, according to liquidator Price Waterhouse.

The four are among 140,000 companies and individuals confirmed in mid-March in the Final Register for the functional constituency polls, months after extensive media coverage of the financial crisis.

The Registration and Electoral Office would not say why the companies were still on the electoral roll.

It admitted it did not take the initiative to check whether companies on the Final Register were eligible to vote.
