CHIEF graft-buster Han Zhubin yesterday vowed to discipline the country's team of procurators after one in Liaoning was convicted over a hit-and-run accident in which two men were killed. A spokesman for Mr Han, the Procurator-General, expressed alarm that Tan Anzhou had tried to blame someone else for his drink-driving crime, Xinhua said. 'The scandal has seriously hurt the reputation of the force. Action must be taken to clean up the team,' Mr Han told Xinhua. The spokesman said investigations had uncovered 22 other cases of procurators violating their disciplinary code. Meanwhile, a Hunan court has ended its trial of a former model worker accused of accepting bribes worth 3.1 million yuan (HK$2.9 million). A verdict will be announced at the next hearing. Song Huanwei, president of the Lianyuan Iron and Steel Company, was charged with making illegal use of his position. China News service said his wife and two mistresses also faced court. Investigators said Song had made illegal loans, embezzled public funds and accepted bribes. This is the second corruption case in Hunan for which top industry officials have been brought to trial. Zhang Deyuan, 61, head of the Hunan International Trust and Investment Corp, was condemned to death last year after being found guilty of more than a dozen bribery charges involving 2.2 million yuan.
