More than 100 flights were affected yesterday after a plane skidded off the runway at Shanghai. Hongqiao international airport was closed when Thai Airways Flight TG664 from Bangkok overshot the runway while landing in heavy rain. The McDonnell Douglas MD11 came to a halt about 30 metres off the runway at about 4 pm. No injuries were reported. A Civil Aviation Department spokesman said four of the affected flights were departures from Kai Tak. He said two China Eastern Airlines flights were grounded and two Dragonair flights were rescheduled. An Ansett Australia flight on route from Sydney to Shanghai was diverted to Hong Kong and held.
