Taiwan growth seen slower

With exports being dragged down by Asia's economic woes, Taiwan is expected to record growth of 5.95 per cent this year, down from an earlier forecast of 6.37 per cent. Economic think-tank the Chung Hua Institution for Economic Research yesterday said Taiwan's exports had slowed as global demand weakened and competition increased from Asian countries whose currencies had depreciated. The institute predicted a 6.4 per cent growth in exports this year against 7 per cent import growth.
