An unemployed man was jailed yesterday for three years for a chopping so savage it left the walls behind the victims soaked in blood.
The attack by Cheng Shing-chi, 37, and seven other unidentified men was sparked by a drugs turf war, the District Court heard yesterday.
It started after Cheng got into a slanging match with jobless 27-year-old Choi Tai-wai in Mongkok last December 1 over 'drug-trafficking activities'.
Later that day, Mr Choi was having drinks with friends at a Tai Kok Tsui dai pai dong when he spotted Cheng and his accomplices getting out of a taxi.
His friends, Chiu Chun-chit, 27, and Lee Kwok-wai, 26, were then set upon with choppers and butcher's knives, the court heard.
Mr Choi managed to run away but ended up spraining his ankle in the process.
The attack on Mr Chiu left him with his throat cut and scalp sliced.
