Motherboard makers rush out new Pentium products

In line with Intel's launch of new Pentium II processors and chipsets, makers of motherboards and systems are rolling out new products.

Legend QDI has unveiled its Brilliant series of motherboards employing Intel's new chipset supporting the faster Pentium II processors.

The 440BX chipset with 100 MHz system bus can support Pentium II processors of up to 450 MHz. The older 440LX chipset with 66 MHz system bus is optimal for Pentium IIs from 233 MHz to 333 MHz.

The Brilliant I is a standard design supporting one processor, while the Brilliant IV with SCSI and LAN controllers on board supports dual processors for servers and high-end workstations.

Aimed at PC-makers, the Brilliant I is priced at $1,560 and Brilliant IV at $4,290.

Some BX motherboards from Taiwan manufacturers also have hit the market, including 2theMax, Tekram, Mega Star and Magic-Pro, starting at $1,480.
