Former chairman of Yeebo (International Holdings) Makie Hui Po-yuen appeared at Eastern Court yesterday charged with defrauding the company of $100 million. Hui faces two charges of conspiracy to defraud Yeebo, shareholders and creditors. He allegedly conspired with Ling Tim-wah, Rue Marshall and others between September 1, 1993 and September 30, 1995 in producing bogus documents showing the company had bought machinery from ST Microsystems. Hui also allegedly conspired with Ling between July 1, 1994 and September 30, 1995 to produce bogus documents for Yeebo subsidiary - Yeebo Semiconductor - showing purchase of similar machinery. Two other charges allege he published false statements; two annual reports in September 1994 and 1995. The 1994 report is alleged to falsely show $23.1 million and $7.5 million had been paid to ST Microsystems agents. It is also alleged the 1995 annual report contained false entries of about $155 million supposedly paid to various companies. Magistrate Garry Tallentire released Hui on $700,000 cash bail, $1 million surety undertaken by his brother-in-law, and condition that he would not interfere with past or present Yeebo staff in the accounts department, managers and directors. Hui also had to notify the Commercial Crime Bureau 24 hours in advance of any change of address or correspondence address, and inform CCB of his address abroad should he leave. The case was adjourned to June 3. Yeebo yesterday said Hui was no longer a major shareholder and that he had resigned as chairman in 1996.
