Mr Wang appealed yesterday to New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to fight for the release of remaining political prisoners in China. When Mr Giuliani asked what the US could do to help China, the dissident repeated his call for relentless action to push for releases of imprisoned activists. During a 15-minute conversation, Mr Giuliani said Mr Wang was welcome to live in New York permanently. The mayor met exiled dissident Wei Jingsheng last year after he was forced out of the mainland on 'medical parole' and refused to meet Jiang Zemin on the President's US visit in October. On Thursday, Mr Wang's parents watched their son's press conference on TV at a Beijing hotel, but only caught a glimpse of him when he made a speech, without watching the question-and-answer session. Mr Wang's father, Wang Xianzeng, said he and his wife would apply for visas to visit the US, adding: 'We want to have a family reunion.'
