The Education Commission has appointed prominent educationalists to head it's two working groups reviewing SAR's academic structure.
Council of Professional Conduct in Education member and principal Tai Hay-lap becomes the chairman of the Working Group on Pre-primary and Universal Basic Education, while University of Hong Kong pro-vice-chancellor Cheng Kai-ming, heads the Working Group on Post-Secondary Three Education.
Commission chairman Antony Leung Kam-chung said: 'The commission has taken over the task of reviewing the structure of pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary education.
'The issues to be addressed include the age at which students should begin each stage of education, duration of various stages, curriculum and assessment methods,' he said.
'The working groups will meet various advisory bodies and the education community in the course of the review to exchange views on sector-specific issues. Consultations with the community at large will also be held,' said Mr Leung.
Mr Leung also said that non- official members had been appointed to the working groups in their personal capacity, and that the working groups would start work soon.
