Quentin Tarantino's latest film Jackie Brown earned Robert Forster a best actor Oscar nomination this year. Five charismatic characters are chasing $500,000 and there's only one question . . . who's playing who? Jackie (Pam Grier) supplements her income as a stewardess by smuggling cash into the United States for gun-runner Ordell Robbie (Samuel L Jackson), until the day an FBI agent (Michael Keaton) and a cop (Michael Bowen) bust her. The cops pressure her to help them bring down Ordell, threatening prison if she refuses. With a sympathetic bailbondsman (Forster), Jackie arrives at a plan to play off these opposing forces against each other. Matters are complicated by Ordell's confederates, Louis Gara (Robert DeNiro) and Melanie Ralston (Bridge Fonda). It's now showing at GV Hollywood, Golden Lee, Empress, London and UA Queensway. Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon has released another movie, The Rainmaker, in which he plays Rudy Baylor, an idealistic young law school graduate, who aspires to get rich clients. He finds employment doing work for a sleazy character named Bruiser Stone (Mickey Rourke), a lawyer with connections in the underworld. As he moves through the seedier areas of the legal hierarchy, he learns how corrupt it is. He latches on to a case that will shake the system by exposing a multi-million-dollar insurance scam. He's on the horns of a dilemma. Can they buy him out or will he keep his idealism and integrity? Showing at Gateway, GV Hollywood, GV Mongkok, UA Sha Tin, Majestic and UA Whampoa.
