Why does Christine Loh Kung-wai give men such a hard time? That was what one member of the audience asked at an RTHK open forum on the role of the Legislative Council yesterday.

Couldn't the campaigner for women's rights get along better with the opposite sex? Ms Loh felt a twinge of embarrassment: 'It seems that you're asking me if I have a boyfriend.' But for good measure Ms Loh laid into her sisters on the platform, Liberal's Ada Wong Ying-kay and the former Liberal Jennifer Chow Kit-bing, for their records on supporting women's rights.

At the same forum DAB heavyweight Gary Cheng Kai-nam came up with one of the mind-boggling comments of the campaign. He was asked why the DAB had voted against allowing Legco to monitor price rises by some public utilities. 'It's not the job of the Legco to monitor price rises by public utilities. The job of Legco is to legislate,' Mr Cheng replied.

There was relief for Chong Chan-yau and his campaign team in the Island constituency when it was confirmed a biography of the blind charity fund-raiser on sale recently would not be counted as an election expense. Mr Chong is one owner of the publishing company.
