As citizens of Macau we do not agree with the editorial 'Macau mayhem' (South China Morning Post, April 22). It is true that there have been triad killings, but you are exaggerating the situation when you say there is 'mayhem' in Macau.

We are students living in Macau and we do not ever feel the fear you are talking about. Your editorial, however, will have a negative impact on tourism and Macau's economy because you have created a false image of violence as an everyday occurrence. In fact, it only happens within a small circle and does not affect the daily lives of the local residents.

Furthermore, you have described Macau as having no assets to attract visitors. We think you should make time to visit Macau and see the rapid development and its subsequent prosperity; certainly after this you will change your mind.

We wonder if this editorial is part of a plan to encourage more tourists to stay in Hong Kong rather than Macau. Don't worry! Each has its own unique characteristics and tourists can enjoy both places.

The press should not to put any more pressure on Macau and leave us in peace.
