The body of a three-year-old girl was found in a wardrobe at her grandfather's flat yesterday, 24 hours after her mother killed herself. The grandfather had spent the night in the Wong Tai Sin flat, knowing only that the toddler was missing, while his daughter was dead. Police said Tsang Chung-man had been drowned in the bathtub by her mother, 28-year-old Fong Ming-chu, then wrapped in a towel and blankets and hidden. Officers searched the flat in Tsui Chuk Garden twice before finding the body. They said dogs could not detect it. Superintendent Vincent Cheung Yuk-fung said: 'Her clothes and hair and the towel used to wrap the body were still wet when we discovered her body.' Fong took Chung-man to the flat on Monday. When the grandfather went out for lunch, she killed her daughter then went to visit her sister in Ying Ming Court, Tseung Kwan O. An hour later, she jumped to her death from the flat. Her six-year-old son had telephoned shortly beforehand and was told she would be back at their Tuen Mun home by about 3 pm. When the grandfather returned home, he assumed Fong had taken the girl with her. Police said Fong, whose seafood trader husband was in China on business, suffered from a liver disease.
