Cathay Pacific Airways has signed a contract with Oracle Systems Hong Kong naming Oracle as the supplier of Cathay's new customer information system data warehouse.
Managing director of Oracle greater China P.W. Pong said he was pleased to become a Cathay partner and 'proud that Cathay Pacific's future business applications will be based on the Oracle standard'.
Cathay has established a strategic information technology vendor relationship with Oracle and Oracle's RDBMS (relational database management system) has been chosen as Cathay's data warehouse.
Cathay's manager of IT (information technology) planning and architecture, Darren Dargen, said that with the new airport about to open, there were several strategic IT decisions being made.
'Cathay is in a position where most of the customer information is scattered,' he said. The agreement with Oracle meant much of that information could be controlled and analysed.
The 'proof of concept' study was done using Sybase, but the final decision went to Oracle.
