Elton John has reportedly split up with his manager and confidant of almost 30 years.
British media reports said the 51-year-old pop superstar had parted company with John Reid after a row over his career and financial affairs.
Mr Reid is credited with transforming the shy teenager Reg Dwight into the outrageous glittering 1970s star who teamed up with lyricist Bernie Taupin to create hit records such as Your Song.
Elton refused to talk but his partner, David Furnish, said: 'I've been told not to breathe a word . . . It's private and isn't to be discussed publicly.' Mr Reid first met Elton in 1970 when the piano-playing singer was struggling to get a recording contract.
He put him in touch with Taupin and encouraged him to wear his trademark clothes and huge glasses.
Despite a history of rows between the pair, Mr Reid was a guest of honour at Elton's 50th birthday celebrations last year.
