A judge yesterday jailed a woman for seven years for throwing acid in the face of her husband's mistress - and said the cheating husband also deserved to be severely punished for his 'acrobatic' love life.
Deputy Judge Abu Bakar bin Wahab, sentencing Lin Wai-ying, said the husband, Fong Shu-ming, was a selfish man.
'Some may say the defendant's husband is the real culprit. He transferred his affections to the victim. He enjoyed at the same time the virtue of the victim and the defendant,' the judge said.
'He is selfish and acrobatic in the field of love and caused misery to the victim and the defendant.
'Surely he should be punished - severely at that.' Lin, 48, hurled a bottle of sulphuric acid at Hui Fung-kuen, 36, after her 51-year-old husband said he was moving in with his girlfriend on September 7 last year. Ms Hui was permanently disfigured, needing three skin grafts, and was almost blinded.
Deputy Judge Wahab said Lin's actions were 'cruel, inhuman, evil and horrible' and had a 'disastrous effect on the victim'.
'She acted in the heat of the moment. What the defendant did to the victim is merciless and nasty with punitive effect.' He adopted a starting point in sentencing of 12 years, then reduced it to seven - the maximum that can be imposed in the District Court.
