Rescue for SAR expats

Chinese diplomats rescued 80 Hong Kong Chinese trapped in a factory after Indonesian authorities failed to help.

Rioters circling the industrial estate in north Jakarta had threatened to go on the rampage.

'We were really afraid and dared not go outside,' factory manager Joseph Mok Yau-king said.

The police and militia failed to rescue 300 expatriates from across Asia who were hiding inside the garment factory at Cacung.

They turned to the Chinese Embassy for assistance, which waited until tensions subsided before sending in two diplomats, two cars and a bus at midnight.
