MORE Hong Kong people arrived home after fleeing Jakarta yesterday, some of them flying via Bali to escape. Chu Kowk-kai, who has a seafood business in Surabaya, said: 'There were not many people in Bali's airport. The flight I took was only one-third full.' An advertising company owner man surnamed Yuen also arrived from Jakarta via Bali. 'I had to sleep overnight at Jakarta airport to get tickets to Bali. It was not a pleasant experience. I haven't had a shave for two days,' he said. A man surnamed Yeung, who owns a clothes shop in Bandung, had to brave the open road to get to Jakarta airport. 'Chinatown in Jakarta was seriously burnt,' he said. Mr Yeung said his son had to fly to Singapore because of a problem in getting air tickets. So Kwai-fung, who works for a hotel in Jakarta, said the situation in the capital has stabilised. 'Many Indonesian-Chinese have fled to our hotel to seek shelter and our hotel has given money to soldiers and asked them to protect us,' he said.
