The organisers of a parade through the streets of Wan Chai and Causeway Bay hoped it might inspire eligible voters to cast their ballots in Legislative Council Elections on May 24. Time will tell, but the ineligible young participants needed no convincing. More than 200 secondary school students, appointed Election Promotion Ambassadors for the Hong Kong Island geographical constituency, took part in the district offices' Marching Towards 524 parade. The event got underway at Southorn Playground, Wan Chai, with Augustine Cheng Luk-san, Deputy Director of the Home Affairs Department, officiating at the opening ceremony. In addition to the parade, highlights included a topical stage drama performed by students from the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts, singing by members of Junior Police Call (Wan Chai), an aerobics performance by kindergarten pupils, as well as mock voting and electoral knowledge quizzes. Flowers were given out in honour of Mother's Day.
