AFTER a build-up that has seemed longer than Bill Clinton's election campaign, it's finally time to watch the 65th Annual Academy Awards.
In previous years, Pearl has been criticised for showing the first part of the awards ceremony live and having to cut out (to make way for compulsory ETV) just when the categories are getting interesting.
This time, they're beginning live coverage at midday, after ETV, which should mean we get to see most of the major categories, and then they're surpassing themselves by showing the whole three-hour shooting match from 8.35pm onwards.
So, Clint, Emma, Jack, Denzel et Al (geddit?): let the battle commence.
WORLD is counter-attacking with not a good film, but at least a newish one.
Made in 1991, Wedlock (9.30pm, original running time 98 mins) is a futuristic story about a convict (a fat Rutger Hauer) who's fitted with a collar which will explode if he strays more than 100 metres from the inmate wearing a similar collar that's paired with his.
The fact that this collar idea appears suspiciously similar to a device seen in Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Running Man is only the first of the film's myriad faults.
