Hong Kong-based electronic art and computer design company Menfond is to create a 26-episode, 3D animation series with France's PMMP Production. The US$11 million production of Jean Giraud's comic-book creation Moebius IT will be co-produced in the SAR and France. The process will use Softimage 3D technology to make the series under an agreement Menfond struck with the United States computer giant Microsoft-owned Softimage Inc. Menfond also has agreed to buy 60 Intergraph work stations capable of producing 3D images. Raymond Neoh, director of corporate planning for Menfond, said the company had opted for the Softimage and Intergraph combination of technology because it allowed the company to produce a large number of frames each week, and the Moebius IT project had tight deadlines. The purchases also would be used for some future projects, including a long-format 3D TV series, animation and digital effects for commercials and electronic games. Founded by brothers Eddie and Victor Wong, Menfond now has about 70 staff working at its Wan Chai offices. The company has produced commercials for several clients in Hong Kong and Asia, including Bayer, Hardees, Hutchison Telephone, Carlsberg, Dairy Farm, SmarTone and Cathay Pacific.
