Fewer jobs available

Nearly 65,000 fewer jobs were available at the end of last year than at the peak of the economic boom 10 years ago, new figures reveal.

The Census and Statistics Department said there were 117,283 vacant jobs in 1988. The latest issue of its 1998 Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics said there were 52,500 vacancies at the end of last year.
