St Paul's Convent School musicians have become stars in their own right, with the release of their CD.

  Recorded to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Sisters of St Paul de Chartres Foundation in Hong Kong, the CD contains 16 tracks, including songs by the 130-member school choir, the prefects and the Chinese orchestra.

  Speaking at a presentation ceremony, principal Sister Margaret Wong Kam-lin said the CD was a token of gratitude for the work the Sisters had done for the school.

  The tracks include the choir's prize- winning songs at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival as well as the school song.

  Nancy Wu Wai-sum, the music teacher in charge for the project, said the CD was a very special way to treasure a memory and she was quite pleased with the result.

  'I can't tell you how happy I am.

  'It is as joyful an occasion as the arrival of a new baby,' she said.

  Ms Wu said the CD had special significance for the school, particularly the Sisters.

  'When we presented the CDs to them, they were very touched. Tears welled up in their eyes, especially when they heard the strains of the school hymn.

  'This was our way of thanking them for their commitment to the school.'  Ms Wu said before launching the project, she spent months tackling legal issues such as copyright and publisher fees.

  She gave special thanks to Ricky Fung Tim-chee, a former record producer, who had assisted her on technical matters.

  'He was very helpful. He gave us valuable tips on where to book a recording studio and how to go about production and printing,' Ms Wu said.

  Some of the 2,000 CDs produced were given as gifts, while others are for sale at $80 each.

  Choir president Peggy Leung Chao-young said producing the CD was one of the most important and memorable experiences of her school life. 'I am very proud of being a member of the choir,' the 17-year-old said.

   'The project involved two weeks of serious practice and three full days of recording. When we finished the last song, we were so happy that we wanted to celebrate,' the Form Six student said.

 Prefect Annie Wat Lai-on said she was honoured to sing the school song with the choir.

  'All 20 prefects joined in, although some of us had never sung before,' the 17-year-old said.

  'It was quite an achievement because we only had to record it five times,' the sixth-former said.



Choir's note of thanks
