The opening of the Route 3 Country Park section today is an important milestone in Hong Kong's infrastructural development.
It provides a strategic link connecting the northwest New Territories and the new airport as well as the urban area, bringing much-needed relief to congestion along Tuen Mun Highway and Castle Peak Road. The journey from Yuen Long to Central now only takes 30 minutes, substantially cutting down travelling time.
Hong Kong never stops building for its future. To herald the opening of the new airport at Chek Lap Kok, we will be celebrating the opening of new roads, highways, bridges and tunnels. On top of these, we will embark on another ambitious project to double the length of our rail system - investment that will equip Hong Kong for the next century. My warmest congratulations to all those involved in this project.
