Champions Regal tipped off their defence of the First Division A1 League title with an emphatic 106-62 victory over Suntex last night at MacPherson Stadium. Seapower also hammered Fire Services 105-35 in the second game of last night's double-header. Regal were expected to win easily but things did not all go their way in the early part of the game. They could not shrug off Suntex and trailed twice in the first six minutes. But with their three foreign players - Eric Cardenas, Wayman Strickland and John Spencer - finding their scoring touch, Regal opened up a 17-point lead at half-time. Regal did not seem to miss local point guard Yung Kam-wah, who was in Taipei with the Asian All-Stars, as they continued to dominate in the second half to post their first victory of the season. Cardenas led all players with 33 points, which included five three-pointers. Lam Chun-wai led Suntex with 16 points, while Spencer's elder brother, Howard, contributed 13 in his Hong Kong debut.
