A would-be model conned a woman with similar dreams in order to repay a $150,000 debt to a modelling agency.

The District Court heard that unemployed Lam Nga-wai owed the money for cosmetics and clothes to the Golden Chance agency.

Lam, 24, admitted posing as a modelling agent to secure personal details and documents from Cheung Pui-shan. Lam then applied for loans and opened a bank account in Ms Cheung's name.

Lawyer Juliana Chow, for Lam, said the defendant had received threatening calls from someone called 'Jessica' demanding she repay her debts or her family would be harassed.

Lam approached Ms Cheung in Causeway Bay in July last year, claiming she was in charge of a modelling firm called 'Pan Asia Company'.

Lam convinced the fellow would-be model to hand over her identity card, bank statements, payroll tax return and a photograph, saying she was going to arrange for her to appear in an advertisement for spectacles.
