ON Sunday, March 14, whilst staying with friends, my eight-year-old daughter was involved in a road traffic accident on the Tolo Highway.

She sustained head injuries which necessitated admission to the Prince of Wales Hospital.

At this point I would like to thank the emergency services and the passers-by who assisted at the accident. It is very comforting to know help in Hongkong is at hand when needed.

The medical treatment at the Prince of Wales Hospital was very good and I have no complaints with regard to this. However on arrival at the ward I was told I would not be allowed to stay the night with my daughter, as this was hospital policy. I flatly refused to leave her.

On several occasions I was asked to leave and ignored the command, this culminated in a bit of a showdown at 6.30 am when I have to say I lost my temper.

If my daughter had been calm and peacefully sleeping like the other children on the ward I would have been happy to sit in the corridor and wait. However, she was frightened, distressed and obviously very shocked from the accident. She couldn't understand what was being said to her and I was the only person who could comfort her.
