DEREK Cruz has lost useful Class Three horse Graceful Win despite a successful season with the four-year-old galloper. Graceful Win has gone to the stable of Tony P.H. Chan and is the latest in growing number of losses from the yard since the split with his championship-leading brother, Tony. Graceful Win scooted up on New Year's Day for Alan Munro and then finished fourth in a Class Three event. Cruz said: ''It's disappointing because he is quite a nice young horse. I can only say that I have been expecting it.'' And David Hill has lost his veteran, low-grade sprinter American Lettuce. That one has moved to the stable of Wylie Wong Wai-lit, Hill's assistant trainer until gaining a full licence this season. Hill said: ''I advised the owner to retire the horse but he wanted to keep it in training until the end of the season and moved it.'' And Hill reported that champion River Verdon lost 15 lbs in winning the Gold Cup at Sha Tin on Saturday. ''He has come out of it really well. We weighed him before and after the race and he was actually 57 lbs heavier before the race than he was before last season's Gold Cup.'' Meanwhile, former South African champion Felix Coetzee has returned to Hongkong after an unsuccessful venture to his homeland. Coetzee rode the filly Empress Club in the Administrator's Cup last Saturday but finished sixth on the long odds-on shot.
