A SOUVENIR scramble at MTR stations saw 200,000 models of the Airport Express and Tung Chung line trains sold by mid-afternoon yesterday. The models, produced by the MTR Corporation, sold for $150 each. Two-thirds of the 300,000 issued had sold by 3.30 pm. Keen collectors were allowed to buy as many as they wished, with two tickets valid for any journey - except on the new lines - thrown in. The sales were 'quite encouraging', an MTR spokesman said. 'We are satisfied. We expected people would buy a souvenir item to commemorate the opening of the Airport Express and the Tung Chung line,' she said. Those who queued received two metal trains about 15 cm long, one in the blue-and-grey of the airport line, the other in the two-tone grey of the Tung Chung line, plus two souvenir cards, all in a presentation box. The Airport Express section of the $35.1 billion line is due to open the same day as the Chek Lap Kok airport - July 6. The Tung Chung line will start services on June 22.
