I refer to the letter by A.J.A Harper regarding racism in Hong Kong and the reluctance of the new government to enact laws against it (South China Morning Post, May 26).

Mr Harper felt that Hong Kong's image had been tarnished as a consequence.
I doubt if this is so, as the British ruled Hong Kong for 150 years in the most racially discriminating way possible and yet their reputation was never called into question. Not even by Mr Harper.
