I refer to the report on Scientology in India ('Scientology push irks Hindus', South China Morning Post, May 22), which I felt was misleading in its representation of our church.

Scientology is a religion and a church in the truest sense of the words, and is recognised as such the world over.

Scientology has been in India since the 1960s and is a body of wisdom which has its roots in the Verde, which gave rise to the great Hindu religion. Many of the truths that saw Eastern philosophy finally civilise two-thirds of mankind are embodied in Scientology.

The founder of Scientology, L Ron Hubbard, travelled to India and Asia in the late 1920s listening to wisdoms of the East. It is this philosophy which so many people have admired in the West.

And for the same and more obvious reasons, his teachings are readily accepted in the East, as they do not contradict their religious beliefs.

It is not unusual for new movements to be attacked as they expand.
