MORE than 3,000 hungry people camped out at the piazza of the Hongkong Coliseum last weekend in a joined effort to bring hope to millions of people starving in the Third World. Before the 30-Hour countdown officially started on Saturday, singers Andy Hui, Norman Cheung, Cass Phang, Winnie Lau, Yolinda Yan, Maple Hui and pop trio Grasshopper took the lead to donate their lunch money to Famine 30. At the opening ceremony of the 30-Hour Famine Camp, celebrities including Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, Sandy Lam, Aaron Kwok, Shirley Kwan, Faye Wong, Lawrence Cheng, Eric Tsang, and Alfred Cheung were appointed as ''famine stars'' to show their support for the function by not eating for 30 hours. A three-hour concert featuring more than 30 local and overseas singers kicked off the 30-Hour Famine. A final countdown concert was held on Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum. Performers included Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok, Sandy Lam, Shirley Kwan and Faye Wong. Sally Yeh, who was going to take part in the concert, had a singing engagement in Guangzhou and failed to make it back in time. She was replaced by the wacky duo, Soft and Hardcore Kids.
