Like most people in Hong Kong, I look forward to the opening of a modern airport, but will miss the charms of landing at Kai Tak.
I would like to bring to the attention of the Transport Department that a significant number of the travelling public live in the New Territories. While the range of public transport services available to and from the new airport is laudable, I have concerns this part of Hong Kong will be inadequately served.
Taxis are the most convenient and flexible mode of transport for the baggage-laden traveller, but at a price. I recommend that the green New Territories taxis, which form the backbone for this diverse area, be given direct access to the airport in competition with red taxis, which are scarce in parts of the region.
With the vast space available at the new airport, there should be no issue in assigning a new rank for green taxis. Will someone from the Transport Department respond? G. CHEUNG Sai Kung
