Chu Kong Shipping Development said growth of its core river cargo operations in the first four months of this year is in line with the sector's average of about 5 per cent. River transport accounts for about a third of its business. Managing director Jackie Huang Jiangji, yesterday said its 25 per cent held Guangfo Expressway recorded higher daily traffic volume this year, albeit only a slight increase. So far this year, traffic volume has hit more than 70,000 vehicles per day, compared with slightly less than 69,000 last year. Financial controller Fang Guoru said it had a gearing ratio of about 20 per cent, based on last year's annual report. It now has more than $300 million cash on hand. Mr Huang said there were no immediate plans to acquire more container terminals from parent, Chu Kong Shipping Enterprises (Holdings). Last month, the firm posted a 96 per cent surge in net profit to $162.9 million for the year to December 31, boosted by a $68.6 million exceptional gain from interest on subscription money.
