Medcalf & Co, one of Hong Kong's oldest independent public relations consultancies, has merged its operations with The Rowland Co, the public affairs and financial consultancy arm of Saatchi & Saatchi.
Tony Turner, chairman of The Rowland Co, would not disclose the financial details of the deal, but said the transaction did not involve cash payment.
He said Roger Medcalf who founded the agency in 1977, would receive incentives and bonuses from business brought in and for any new business which might follow.
Mr Medcalf had been looking to scale down his involvement in his company since last year, and his four staff will join Rowland.
Mr Medcalf's clients include BUPA (Asia) medical insurance and the Hong Kong Article Numbering Association. His role in The Rowland Co will be in new business development as a non-executive director.
Rowland claims it was the third largest public relation company in Hong Kong last year, but it did not disclose its billings for that period. The company is part of Rowland Worldwide, a 40-office global chain which last year reported billings of US$48 million.
