As new vice-chairman and acting chief executive of Hang Seng Bank, Vincent Cheng hardly has time to indulge in his passion - table tennis.
However he did get a chance recently - in a friendly match at the Hang Seng Bank headquarters when the Hang Seng All Schools Table Tennis Championships '98 began.
Playing against Mr Cheng was Li Furong, a world champion in the 1960s and Mr Cheng's idol. Today Mr Li is an executive member of the State Commission for Physical Culture and Sports, vice-president of the Chinese Olympic Committee and honorary secretary-general of the Asian Table Tennis Union.
'The last time I played table tennis was when I was in secondary school,' says Mr Cheng. Considering how he played against Mr Li, he obviously has not forgotten how.
