A CUSTOMS officer who took bribes from a cross-border smuggling ring was yesterday remanded in custody by the Chief Justice pending a review of his suspended sentence. Ng Sheung-chun, 32, was given a 20-month jail sentence, suspended for three years, by Deputy Judge Li in the District Court. Crown counsel Mr Kevin Zervos asked Sir Ti Liang Yang for leave to review the sentence on the grounds that it was inadequate and wrong in principle. Ng, represented by Mr Peter Wan, was ordered detained until April 29 for the Court of Appeal review.
