THE South China Morning Post won two top prizes in the Third Annual Human Rights Press Awards, sponsored by Amnesty International, the Foreign Correspondents' Club and the Hong Kong Journalists' Association.

Jasper Becker, the paper's chief correspondent in Beijing, won an award in the features category for his reporting of the famine in North Korea.

Chief courts reporter Cliff Buddle and other Post journalists involved in the paper's Open Justice Campaign were awarded a merit certificate for their work.

The Post's photographers won seven awards. Ricky Chung won three awards for his photographs, including one of migrant children weeping at being denied education in Hong Kong, and Martin Chan, Garrige Ho, Dickson Lee and Robert Ng received merit certificates.

Other winners in the English-language categories were the Asian Wall Street Journal, Hong Kong Standard, Reader's Digest, Business Week, Eve, BBC, RTHK Radio 3 and ATV.

Winners in the Chinese-language categories were Sing Tao Daily, Ming Pao Daily, Cable TV, RTHK, Hong Kong Economic Times, Express Daily News, Next Magazine and Yazhou Zhoukan.
