Spending on roads to increase

The mainland will raise road-building investment by 40 billion yuan (about HK$37.22 billion) this year to help speed economic growth. The increase would bring investment in the sector to a total of 160 billion yuan this year, the Xinhua Daily Telegraph reported, quoting the Ministry of Communications. Of the total, 90 billion yuan would be spent on key road projects. So far this year, 30.5 billion yuan has been poured into road construction, up 9.9 billion year-on-year to May. About 500 billion yuan would be invested in roads in the next three years.
