Taiwan Diaoyus activists who will join Hong Kong diehards in another protest voyage to the disputed islands next week will be armed with crossbows, the protesters said last night. Taipei county councillor Chin Chieh-shou, arrived last night to discuss protest strategies with his Hong Kong counterparts. Details of the trip are due to be announced today. The convoy of Taiwan vessels is expected to meet about 20 Hong Kong protesters off Taipei shores four days after the local group sets sail on Sunday. Mr Chin said their vessels would be armed with crossbows. 'They will be used for defence as we expect our vessels to be blocked or hit by Japanese security forces.' The group might also add explosives to the bolt tips, he said. They were also planning to take another weapon, which he said had to be kept secret. 'It will hurt, but not kill,' Mr Chin said. Local activist Tsang Kin-shing claimed the demonstration would be peaceful.
