MobileOne, the Singapore cellular operator in which Hongkong Telecom has a 16 per cent share, is estimated to be worth S$1 billion (HK$4.62 billion) according to the investment bank ING Barings.

 Telecoms analyst Gautam Kapoor has based the valuation on MobileOne's projected earnings for the next 10 years. The company is Singapore's only alternative cellular operator to former monopoly, Singapore Telecom.

 MobileOne was expected to earn $9.2 million this year increasing to $77.8 million by 2000, said Barings.
