Film distributor Golden Harvest Entertainment (Holdings) and Robert Kuok-controlled Kerry Properties yesterday said they had jointly submitted a tender for a 2.98- hectare film production site in Tseung Kwan O.
The tender comes two days after another of Mr Kuok's companies, Kerry (Holdings), said it would take a 20 per cent stake in Golden Harvest in conjunction with Li Ka-shing and Rupert Murdoch's 20th Century Fox.
However, Australian company Village Roadshow wants to block the sale and said it was considering a $400 million bid for the 84 per cent of Golden Harvest shares it did not already own.
Golden Harvest and Kerry said last night the tender included plans for a state-of-the-art film studio complex with sound stages, film-processing laboratory, as well as special effects, sound and other post-production facilities.
Rival film and property companies Media Asia Distribution - a unit of Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) and China Star Entertainment have also submitted a joint bid for the site.
The government will announce the result of the tender for the site no later than August 28.
