Wine: Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico Grape: Sangiovese Region: Chianti, Tuscany, Italy Vintage: 1996 IT is said that one way of making a small fortune in the wine business is to start with a large fortune.

 This luckily was not the case for film producer Italo Zingarelli.

 Well known for his 'spaghetti Westerns' which starred Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, he moved from film-making to wine-making with huge success.

 In the early 1970s, Zingarelli bought an ancient town called Le Macie and baptised his winery Rocca delle Macie.

 In 1984, Zingarelli acquired the vineyards of Fizzano.

 Rocca delle Macie is now one of the largest wine estates in the country.

 More than five million bottles of wine are produced there annually, with more than half the bottles being exported.

 The region of Tuscany had poor vintages from 1991 to 1994, but subsequent vintages have all been good.

 The Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico 1996 is a well-made, inexpensive red wine with plenty of fruit and flavour without being aggressive.

 The individual vineyard riserva, Fizzano, is also available from the 1994 vintage.

 It is quite ready for drinking now.
