RESIDENTS of Discovery Bay are to go ahead with today's protest over fare increases despite a last-minute concession from their transport company.
HKR International, which runs the enclave's buses and ferries, has said it will suspend a planned ferry increase.
It had been set to raise the price of single-journey ferry tickets from $25 to $26, and 50-trip tickets from $1,150 to $1,170 from July 1.
However, a rise in bus fares, from $3 to $3.50, will go ahead, and so will the protest at Discovery Bay Plaza at 2.30pm.
'We must get our voices heard,' said spokeswoman Amy Yung Wing-sheung. More than 4,000 residents had signed petitions against the rises.
