Time will lend colour

I REFER to the letter from Mr Chris Ingram headlined ''Colourful statement'' (South China Morning Post, March 17), which concerns the Government's landslip preventive works on Seymour Cliffs, above Conduit Road.

The ''white rock faces'' mentioned by Mr Ingram are actually plain concrete blocks buttressing the unstable boulders.

While I agree with Mr Ingram that these concrete buttresses do not at present blend naturally with the luxuriant vegetation on the site, they will soon darken by natural weathering and the growth of the vegetation will, I trust, soon cover them.

The works will considerably reduce the risk of boulder falls from the cliffs and improve the safety of the area below.
