A proposal by Mei Foo residents that the future KCRC West Rail station be built next to the existing Lai Chi Kok bus depot is not viable because if the work went ahead it could cause a road to collapse, a spokesman said yesterday.

He said the soil was not strong enough and road surfaces could cave in if underground water was withdrawn.

There was no good reason for changes to KCRC plans, which would see a substantial part of phases one and two of Lai Chi Kok Park demolished, he said.

The park will be the site of the railway's Mei Foo interchange with the MTR.
