Carnival Corp, the largest cruise operator, says it will pay US$2 million to settle charges that one of its ships discharged oily water into the ocean.

The Rotterdam, part of Carnival's Holland America Line, was accused of dumping untreated water in 1994 when shipboard equipment meant to separate contaminated water malfunctioned, the company said.
The Rotterdam's crew also was accused of failing to keep proper records of the accident.
