A 60-year-old man chopped his wife with an axe before jumping to his death from the window of their 13th-floor flat in Ho Man Tin Estate yesterday. Police said relations between the couple had been bad for a long time and they always argued over money. The dispute turned into a tragedy yesterday when Chun Ching-tim and wife, Chan Yung-foon, 52, had a heated argument shortly before 6am. Their son, Chun Wai-keung, 21, awoke to hear his mother shouting for help. 'It was too late when their son rushed out from his bedroom. He found his mother had sustained serious injuries to her head and neck, and was lying in a pool of blood on the balcony. A bloodstained axe was found next to her,' a police investigator said. 'His father had disappeared and the window was open. We believe his father climbed out of the window and jumped.' Chun Ching-tim, a decoration worker, was found unconscious on the ground floor outside the building. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The dead man's wife was undergoing surgery in the hospital yesterday. She was listed in 'critical' condition.
